The Superstar and the Followers : Intra-Firm Product Complementarity in International Trade

This paper investigates whether the exports of different products by the same firm are systematically interconnected. Using Swedish firm-registry data from 1997-2011, I first document that the distribution of firm export sales is skewed towards their best performing products (‘superstars’). I then use a novel instrumental variable approach to identify if the ‘superstar’ products induce more trade This paper investigates whether the exports of different products by the same firm are systematically interconnected. Exchange Rate Risk and Forecasting

Since the collapse of the Bretton Woods system, the system of fixed exchange rates amongst principal industrial countries, in the early 1970s, a new era began, introducing the floating exchange rate regime. Since the inception of the floating rate regime, the general interest in forecasting exchange rate movements has grown considerably. Yet, forecasting the exchange rate is extremely difficult, a

Actors in Innovation

Innovation is gospel today. This also means a surge in popularity for the agents behind innovation; innovators. But who are they, exactly? Anecdotal evidence from both recent times and historical settings tend to emphasize remarkable individuals, who more or less alone created amazing things. By utilizing the SWINNO-database of innovations, this thesis examines how empirically prevalent the narrat

Cultural and socio-political development in south Etruria. : The Biedano region in the 5th to 1st centuries BC

The town of Blera is situated in the southern parts of Etruria and has a history spanning more than 2,500 years. Its location between the two important Etruscan cities of Tarquinii and Caere has meant that Blera, for the entire Etruscan period (c. 750–50 BC), alternatively has found itself in either city’s sphere of interest. Strategic ignorance of health risk: its causes and policy consequences

We examine the causes and policy implications of strategic (willful) ignorance of risk as an excuse to overengage in risky health behavior. In an experiment on Copenhagen adults, we allow subjects to choose whether to learn the calorie content of a meal before consuming it, and measure their subsequent calorie intake. Consistent with previous studies, we find strong evidence of strategic ignoranceWe examine the causes and policy implications of strategic (willful) ignorance of risk as an excuse to over-engage in risky health behavior. Kritiska framgångsfaktorer i teknologiska förändringstider

Mining for Mood Effect in the Field

We conduct what we believe to be the most methodologically rigorous study of mood effect in the field so far to measure its economic impact and address shortcomings in the existing literature. Divergence in stakeholders' preferences : Evidence from a choice experiment on forest landscapes preferences in Sweden

A great deal of biodiversity can be found in private forests, and protecting it requires taking into consideration the preferences of key stakeholders. The Shareholder Base Hypothesis of Stock Return Volatility : Empirical Evidence

We use Swedish ownership data to explore whether a large and diversified shareholder base leads to lower volatility by improving the information content of stock prices. Volatility is also positively re
