Design & Development of Modular Learning Management Systems - Methods & Techniques: Learning From a Success Story

The rapid development of current information technology has brought about new aspirations in the academic world, especially in higher education organizations. Learning management systems (LMS) are software applications or Web-based technology used mainly for digital learning and studying. Even though there are many different kinds of LMS, the more advanced ones are usually highly priced and the si

Diversity of avian haemosporidian parasites : Host specificity, genetic structure and infection patterns

Fågelinfluensa och West-Nile virus kan överföras från fåglar till människor medan rabies kan överföras från hParasites live on or inside their hosts and usually cause fitness loss, sometimes even lead to outbreaks of emerging infectious disease. Understanding how a parasite can infect its hosts (i.e., host specificity of the parasite) is important to both basic studies on disease evolution and the whole ecosystem health. In this thesis, I use avian haemosporidians, a group of species-rich protozoans as a

Storytelling in Jazz and Musicality in Theatre : Through the Mirror

Art forms tend to mirror themselves in each other. In order to understand literature and fine arts better, we often turn to music, speaking of the ‘tone’ in a book and of the ‘rhythm’ in a painting. In attempts to understand music better, we turn instead to the narrative arts, speaking of the ‘story’ of a musical piece. This book focuses on two examples of such conceptual mirror reflexivity: narraArt forms tend to mirror themselves in each other. Japan - From Traditionel Home Cooked Meals to Dining Alone at McDonald's

Theoretical perspective: Existing theories within anthropology, globalization of McDonald’s and Japanese culture (household etc.) were used as providing explanations of the collected data. Methodology: This research uses McDonald’s as an example of fast food consumption in Japan. The fieldwork includes interviews, observations, and questionnaires. The research has an interpretational approach to

Storytelling – from cell to society

ASG 2025 Storytelling surrounds us and we love it. We tell stories, we listen to them, and we study them and our interpretation of them. Storytelling plays an essential role in human society. It has been intensely studied throughout history, but with little interaction between academic disciplines. Telling stories and understanding them is a highly complex behavior that is unique to the human spec

The MHC genes: variation and impact on life-history traits in house sparrwos

Sedan ett par decennier tillbaka är detta ett välstuderat område speciellt hos människanIn birds the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) organization differs both among and within orders. Galliformes often have simple arrangements with few transcribed MHC genes whilst many songbirds (Passeriformes) have a complex arrangement with many MHC genes and also presence of pseudo-genes. In this thesis I have partly characterized MHC class I in house sparrows (Passer domesticus), sequencin

The borderless wild boar

Breeding and succeeding in the city? -The effects of urbanization on the reproduction of Great Tits (Parus major)

The purpose of this study was to get a deeper understanding of women who are exposed to domestic violence by their male partners. We have examined how battered women both draw from and reject victimdiscourses in their processes of self‐construction and how available “victim” discourses affected these women's views on their role and their choice not to seek assistance to get out of their situat

Human dependence is a phenomenon with above all negative connotations. We tend to associate it either with addiction or an economic, social and emotional lack of independence and view it as an impediment to women’s liberation. Dependence has been viewed as mutually exclusive to freedom. This is particularly the case in a country like Sweden, where independence is built in to the societal system so

Lessons from Iago : Narrating the event of Entrepreneurship

To be able to demonstrate as well as argue for the possibilities of a narrative approach in entrepreneurship studies, this article focuses on some resonance between a story - the 'Toy Story' of Terry Allen's, the Marvel Mustang story - and a passage from Shakespeare's Othello, with particular focus on the character of Iago. I argue that a narrative approach enables us to learn from the ways of Iag

Drinking stories as a narrative genre : The five classic themes

Drinking stories feature widely in Western societies. Many people eagerly share their stories in the aftermath of drinking events. These stories are also common in books, movies, music and the media. Based on qualitative interviews with 104 young Norwegian heavy episodic drinkers, the article seeks to establish drinking stories as a distinct narrative genre. We argue that this narrative genre of d
