Redefining water scarcity through the integrated water strategic resilience index amid climate and conflict pressures

Water scarcity is a dynamic condition influenced by a variety of factors, including environmental variables but also political, economic, technological, and social variables. This research reflects the intersection of natural resources, governance, and human systems. Redefining water scarcity is a crucial factor for greater sustainable management in the face of increasing climate variability and g

The situated strategies of standardization : – social workers’ form work in standardized family treatment in Sweden

Regardless of workplace, social workers today use standardized tools for investigation, assessment and treatment that, to varying degrees, prescribe what information should be collected, with what questions, and what should be done in what order. With an ethnomethodological gaze on situated action and context, this article explores how social workers ascribe meaning to a standardized tool for fami

Reconstruction and identification of pairs of collimated τ-leptons decaying hadronically using s=13 TeV pp collision data with the ATLAS detector

This paper describes an algorithm for reconstructing and identifying a highly collimated hadronically decaying τ-lepton pair with low transverse momentum. When two τ-leptons are highly collimated, their visible decay products might overlap, degrading the reconstruction performance for each of the τ-leptons. A dedicated treatment attempting to tag the τ-lepton pair as a single object is required. T

Statin use and risk of contralateral breast cancer : an updated cohort study with landmark analysis

Statins may have anti-cancer effects against breast cancer, but evidence regarding their influence on the risk of contralateral breast cancer (CBC) remains inconclusive. In this updated study, incorporating a larger sample, extended follow-up, and landmark analyses, we reevaluated the association between post-diagnosis statin use and CBC incidence among women with breast cancer. Utilising the Dani

Discrete episodes of elevated terrestrial runoff during the Carnian climate changes

The Carnian Pluvial Episode (CPE) was an interval of prominent hydroclimatic perturbations during the early Late Triassic. The causes of these changes have been widely attributed to intensified greenhouse forcing. However, the temporal dynamics of the hydrological cycle across low-latitude regions during the CPE remain poorly constrained. In this study, we present high-resolution organic geochemic

First measurement of Ds1(1+)(2536)+ and D*s2 (2+)(2573)+ production in proton-proton collisions at √S=13S2Te V at the LHC

The production yields of the orbitally excited charm-strange mesons (Formula presented) and (Formula presented) were measured for the first time in proton-proton (pp) collisions at a center-of-mass energy of (Formula presented) with the ALICE experiment at the LHC. The (Formula presented) and (Formula presented) mesons were measured at midrapidity ((Formula presented)) in minimum-bias and high-mul

Context matters: Understanding the platformization of violence

This introductory paper outlines the conceptual foundations and research agenda for our special issue Contextual Complexities of Violence on Digital Platforms. We argue that violence on digital platforms cannot be understood as a fixed or self-evident category, but must be situated within the sociotechnical, cultural and political environments that shape its production, circulation and recognition

Gender and reproductive rights : Synergies and contradictions in China’s national and global development agendas

This chapter draws on recent literature to outline the trajectory of China’s national development in the fields of gender equality and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), as well as its global engagement in these fields. By highlighting how Chinese national and global development agendas speak to and depart from each other, it attempts to identify potential synergies and contradictio

‘I’ve Always Managed on My Own’—Exploring Resilience Through the Voices of Children in Foster Care

There is a notable lack of resilience-focused research grounded in the perspectives of children currently in foster care. Therefore, the present study explored resilience processes through children’s own accounts, guided by two research questions: (1) How do children in foster care describe themselves, their relationships and their different important contexts? (2) How do children cope with the sp

Discrete-time neural Markov models

Background: Markov models are models used to describe movement of individuals between states. In medicine, Markov models are used to describe, for example, disease progression and the effects of interventions on such progression. The models can further be used to identify medical risk groups and aid clinicians in clinical decision making. Although accurate individual predictions are crucial for ut

Learning covariate relations in disease progression models using symbolic neural networks

Covariate modeling provides individual predictions of outcomes by disease progression models. Current methodology for mapping covariates onto model parameters is limited by predefined parametric functions which can result in inadequate covariate selection and biased predictions by the final model. Furthermore, present methodology scales poorly to high-dimensional data due to combinatorial limitati

Search for vector-like leptons coupling to first- and second-generation Standard Model leptons in pp collisions at s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

A search for pair production of vector-like leptons coupling to first- and second-generation Standard Model leptons is presented. The search is based on a dataset of proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1. Events are categorised depending on the flavour and multiplicity

Test of lepton flavour universality in W-boson decays into electrons and τ-leptons using pp collisions at s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

A measurement of the ratio of the branching fractions, Rτ/e = B(W → τν)/B(W → eν), is performed using a sample of W bosons originating from top-quark decays to final states containing τ-leptons or electrons. This measurement uses pp collisions at s = 13 TeV, collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider during Run 2, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1. The W → τ
