Upscaling Northern Peatland CO2 Fluxes Using Satellite Remote Sensing Data

Peatlands play an important role in the global carbon cycle as they contain a large soil carbon stock. However, current climate change could potentially shift peatlands from being carbon sinks to carbon sources. Remote sensing methods provide an opportunity to monitor carbon dioxide (CO2) exchange in peatland ecosystems at large scales under these changing conditions. In this study, we developed ePeatlands play an important role in the global carbon cycle as they contain a large soil carbon stock. Yogic Breathing and Mindfulness as Stress-Coping Mediate Positive Health Outcomes of Yoga

Objectives. Despite accumulating research on yoga and its positive impact on both physiological and psychological health, it is still unclear how yoga improves health. Two central components of yoga: yogic breathing and mindfulness, may be important mechanisms by which individuals learn to cope with their daily stressors, and thereby reduce their risk of developing stress-related illness. Absorption and metaboliosm of 3Harachidonic and 14Clinoleic acid in in esential fatty acid deficient rats

[3H]arachidonic acid (20:4) and [14C]linoleic acid (18:2) were fed in a triolein emulsion to essential fatty acid-deficient (EFAD) rats and to age-matched controls. Tissues were analyzed for radioactivity of different lipid classes after 1, 2, and 4 h. As in earlier studies [Nilsson and Melin. Am. J. Physiol. 255 (Gastrointest. Marine exploitation and the arrival of farming : resolving the paradox of the Mesolithic-Neolithic transition in Denmark

The transition to farming in the coastal environments of southern Scandinavia remains a key conundrum in European prehistory. This region was heavily exploited by Late Mesolithic communities of the Ertebølle culture, complex hunter-fisher-gatherers who flourished for some 1500 years prior to the arrival of farming at around 4000 BCE marking the start of the Neolithic period. Echocardiographic estimation of pulmonary artery wedge pressure: invasive derivation, validation, and prognostic association beyond diastolic dysfunction grading

Aims: Grading of diastolic function can be useful, but indeterminate classifications are common. We aimed to invasively derive and validate a quantitative echocardiographic estimation of pulmonary artery wedge pressure (PAWP) and to compare its prognostic performance to diastolic dysfunction grading. Methods and results: Echocardiographic measures were used to derive an estimated PAWP (ePAWP) usingAims: Grading of diastolic function can be useful, but indeterminate classifications are common. Seasonal changes in plumage density, plumage mass, and feather morphology in the world’s northernmost land bird, the Svalbard Rock Ptarmigan (Lagopus muta hyperborea)

The Svalbard Rock Ptarmigan, Lagopus muta hyperborea, is the only year-round resident terrestrial bird in the high Arctic. Many of the physiological and morphological adaptations permitting its winter endurance in this harsh environment are well understood. However, it remains unknown how the conspicuous moult from a greyish brown summer to a white winter plumage, and any underlying changes in pluThe Svalbard Rock Ptarmigan, Lagopus muta hyperborea, is the only year-round resident terrestrial bird in the high Arctic. Leveraging Circular Business Models in Textiles - A Socio-Technical Pathway for German SMEs

The textile industry’s linear business paradigm fuels excessive resource extraction and generate vast amounts of waste. Despite the EU Circular Economy Action Plan and growing industry awareness of these environmental concerns, many firms struggle to implement transformative Circular Business Models (CBMs) that provide a sustainable countermodel. Underlying socio-technical dynamics further amplify

Surgical approach, relapse risk and overall survival in borderline ovarian tumors: age-stratified analysis based on real-world data

Background:The need for complete staging surgery including hysterectomy for all age patients with borderline ovarian tumors (BOT) is debatable, considering fertility in younger patients and potential higher morbidity in older patients. We aimed to investigate the relapse risk and overall survival in a cohort including patients who underwent conservative surgery (organ-preserving procedures) to min

In-situ peel test analysis via synchrotron tomography and DVC

To study adhesion in flexible laminates, standardised peel tests are commonly used where macroscopic measurements, e.g. peel force versus peel arm displacement, are extracted. However, insights into the adhesion mechanisms at the microscopic scale are limited. This study has developed a framework for determining peel arm geometry parameter evolution and deformation in packaging material laminates.

The relevance of the encyclopaedia : From semiosis to sedimentation and back again

Unlike what is usually taken for granted in semiotics, communication, in the sense of semiosis, does not essentially depend on transport and/or recoding. Instead, it consists in the creation of an artefact, with the additional setting of a task of interpretation. This task may be set by the addressee, just as likely as by the addresser. In making this suggestion, we are inspired by Husserlean phen
