Applications in Monocular Computer Vision using Geometry and Learning : Map Merging, 3D Reconstruction and Detection of Geometric Primitives

As the dream of autonomous vehicles moving around in our world comes closer, the problem of robust localization and mapping is essential to solve. In this inherently structured and geometric problem we also want the agents to learn from experience in a data driven fashion. How the modern Neural Network models can be combined with Structure from Motion (SfM) is an interesting research question and As the dream of autonomous vehicles moving around in our world comes closer, the problem of robust localization and mapping is essential to solve. Effects of crop and non-crop resources and competition : High importance of trees and oilseed rape for solitary bee reproduction

To mitigate wild bee declines, it is important to understand the separate and joint effects of parallel losses of semi-natural habitats containing flower resources and increases in transient flower resources provided by mass-flowering crops. Since mobility may affect how bee species cope with these changes, they may also affect competitive interactions and thus community composition. Book Launch: Negotiating Noise - Across Places, Spaces and Disciplines

Webcast: 25 november, klockan 10:00 - 11:00 (CET) The event will be in English What is noise, where can it be heard, and what should we do with it? These questions are answered in very different ways in the book Negotiating Noise Across Places, Spaces and Disciplines that came out in September 2021. The book is a result of transdisciplinary conversations at two workshops – one at Lund University a

Pre-reflections from panelists

Pre-reflections for the panel STS research for sustainable sustainabilities Swedish STS conference, Helsingborg, May 19-20, 2016 Josefin Wangel   - How can researchers contribute to more sustainable and more inclusive sustainabilities? How can we move on from deconstructing sustainability, to, if possible, reconstruct it on different terms? To me this question entails at least two aspects: first,

Fighting Covid-19 amidst civil conflict : Micro-level evidence from Burkina Faso

How does violent conflict affect the spread of Covid-19? In this paper we analyze how violent conflict influences the adoption of preventative measures and infection rate in a very poor, conflict-affected country, Burkina Faso. We use a unique panel of 1,919 households surveyed during the first six months of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and merge these data with indicators of violence at the muniHow does violent conflict affect the spread of Covid-19? Perdeuteration of Biological Macromolecules: A Case Study of Human Carbonic Anhydrases

Deuterated biomolecules - where hydrogen atoms (H) are exchanged to its isotope deuterium (D) - are essential for biological experiments in neutron scattering, but they are not readily available. In neutron scattering, D has a strong positive coherent scattering length (6.67 fm) in comparison with the negative scattering length of H (-3.74 fm). GDP, not the Bond Yield, should Remain the Anchor of the EU Fiscal Framework

Declining bond yields and rising public debts have caused many economists to suggest raising the debt ceiling in the EU’s Stability and Growth Pact. Implicitly, they argue for replacing GDP as the anchor with the bond yield. We discuss the risks of such a shift. While such a change would provide short-term relief to highly indebted EU member states, it is based on the expectation that bond yields

Energy Communities: a transition towards a more just energy system?

We use energy in almost every aspect of our lives. Yet, often, we do not know the source of electricity that powers our homes or heats our food. In this episode, we explore energy communities as a form of decentralised and democratic energy production. Community energy sees people coming together to take control of their energy needs, by finding alternative ways to organise and govern the energy sWe use energy in almost every aspect of our lives. Particle-Size Effects on the Enhanced Diffusion of Tracer Particles in Microswimmer Suspensions

Active suspensions of microswimmers such as bacteria or microalgae are found in oceans or lakes, and within living organisms, such as the human body. These suspensions can exhibit complex flow patterns and enhanced diffusion of passive tracer particles due to the advection from the long-ranged dipolar flow fields of the swimmers. The diffusion of tracers at varying radii is poorly understood but o
