The European Frontier : Clashes and Compromises in the Middle Ages
During the Middle Ages the concepts of `them and us' became concrete in the shape of fiercely defended frontiers, some of which were physical, geographic and political, while others were more ideological. This volume, the proceedings of an international symposium held at Lund University in 2000, presents twenty-four papers which examine the archaeological evidence for frontiers across Europe. Divi

Tandmognadsundersökningar i straffprocessen - kvalificerade gissningar
Socialstyrelsen har tagit ställning till frågan huruvida tandmognadsbedömningIn criminal proceedings it is unusual that the age of the accused is unclear. But when it is, it is of utmost importance that the methods used to determine the age are sufficiently precise because the expected age of the accised is of paramount importance. The Swedish penalties provisions specifically deal with juvenile offenders in different ways depending on age. Socialstyrelsen has considered t

Defining the Limits of Corporate Responsibilities against the Concept of Legal Positive Obligations
Review of exergy and energy analysis of fuel cells
Recently, to reach zero emission levels, some new energy systems based on fuel cells have been developed. This paper presents a review of investigations of these systems by thermodynamics performance, mainly, energy and exergy analysis. With energy analysis, the performance of an energy conversion system cannot be effectively and accurately evaluated. But exergy analysis complements and reinforces
Demonstration of antibody‐associated cellular cytotoxicity in patients with acute myelogenous leukemia before and after chemotherapy
This study demonstrates that a cytotoxic serum reactivity not requiring the presence of complement appears in the sera of patients with acute myelogenous leukemia. The reaction is detected upon short‐term incubation of sera in vitro with autochthonous mononuclear white blood cells from peripheral venous blood of patients at the acute stage of the disease. This reactivity was demonstrated in 18/18
Host-pathogen interactions in Streptococcus pyogenes infections, with special reference to puerperal fever and a comment on vaccine development.
Streptococcus pyogenes (group A streptococcus) causes a variety of diseases, including acute pharyngitis, impetigo, rheumatic fever and the streptococcal toxic shock syndrome. Moreover, S. pyogenes was responsible for the classical example of a nosocomial infection, the epidemics of puerperal fever (childbed fever) that caused the death of numerous women in earlier centuries. The most extensively
Dry release of suspended nanostructures
A dry release method for fabrication of suspended nanostructures is presented. The technique has been combined with an anti-stiction treatment for fabrication of nanocantilever based nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS). The process combines a dry release method, using a supporting layer of photoresist which is removed using oxygen ashing in a reactive ion etcher (RIE), with CHF3 plasma induced de
Efficacy of rfixfc versus rix-fp for the treatment of patients with hemophilia b : Matching-adjusted indirect comparison of b-long and prolong-9fp trials
Purpose: In patients with hemophilia B, treatment with extended half-life (EHL) recombi-nant factor IX allows for longer dosing intervals while providing equal or superior bleeding protection compared with standard half-life products. This enables flexible, individualized treatment schedules, which reduce the burden of prophylaxis and improve patient outcomes. This analysis compared the efficacy o
Receptor for IgA in group A streptococci : cloning of the gene and characterization of the protein expressed in Escherichia coli
The gene for an IgA-binding protein from a group A streptococcal strain was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. The IgA-binding protein, called protein Arp, was purified on IgA-Sepharose, allowing complete purification in a single step. Analysis of protein Arp by Western immunoblotting demonstrated a major IgA-binding band, with an apparent molecular weight of 42 kD. The purified protein was
MEDI-563, a humanized anti-IL-5 receptor alpha mAb with enhanced antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity function
Background: Peripheral blood eosinophilia and lung mucosal eosinophil infiltration are hallmarks of bronchial asthma. IL-5 is a critical cytokine for eosinophil maturation, survival, and mobilization. Attempts to target eosinophils for the treatment of asthma by means of IL-5 neutralization have only resulted in partial removal of airway eosinophils, and this warrants the development of more effec
The Triangle of Mistrust: A Utility's Struggle to Engage Effectively in the Informal Settlements of Nairobi
“Water is life”. During the past decade this phrase has been used repeatedly to emphasize the importance of a number of issues surrounding water services provision including, supply, distribution, governance and political will. This research seeks to investigate the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC), a water utility in Kenya, which faces the monumental task of providing water and san
Bringing Death to Life: The Personifications of Death in Zusak's The Book Thief, Moore's A Dirty Job and Pendle's Death: A Life
This essay examines the personifications of Death in Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief (2005), Christopher Moore’s A Dirty Job (2006) and George Pendle’s Death: A Life (2008). The personifications are analysed in terms of gender, anthropomorphism, (im)mortality, agency in conceptual death and attitude towards their occupation as Death. The personifications are also compared to previous portrayals in r

“Heading for the Abyss” Interstate friendship, anxiety and state biographical narrative change in Austria
The purpose of this thesis is to examine how state biographical narratives can change and how this process might affect a state’s ontological security. Moreover, it looks at whether interstate friendship could alleviate any feelings of anxiety caused by such changes. Using the case of Austria after World War II, the analysis focuses on political elites’ articulations of Austrian state identity alo
