DFA as a window into postural dynamics supporting task performance : Does choice of step size matter?

Introduction: Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (DFA) has been used to investigate self-similarity in center of pressure (CoP) time series. For fractional gaussian noise (fGn) signals, the analysis returns a scaling exponent, DFA-α, whose value characterizes the temporal correlations as persistent, random, or anti- persistent. In the study of postural control, DFA has revealed two time scaling region

Shifting Horizons: The Evolving Geography of Uzbek Labor Migration to the European Union

This paper explores recent trends in Uzbek labor migration, with a focus on the growing role of the European Union as a destination. While Russia remains the largest host country, ongoing diversification has led to a notable increase in migration to EU member states, particularly for employment. Drawing on official statistics and fieldwork, the study highlights rising numbers of Uzbek migrants in

Effect of inaccurate b-values from imaging gradients on intravoxel incoherent motion

PURPOSE: Neglecting imaging gradients in b-value calculations has been a documented issue for decades and remains unaccounted for in the current postprocessing pipelines. This omission may introduce inaccuracies that propagate into diffusion parameter estimates, such as in ADC and DTI analysis. Because intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) makes use of low b-values, these inaccuracies may be of grea

The Art of Listening in the Gospel of Matthew and Paul’s Letter to the Romans

This revised lecture highlights two aspects of listening in the Bible, that of listening as an obedient act of confession according to the Gospel of Matthew and that of listening to and interpreting the oral performance of Paul’s letter to the Romans. The former aspect is specific to the socio-religious commitment in ancient Israel and Judaism, including the Jewish Christ-believers, and identifiesThis revised lecture highlights two aspects of listening in the Bible, that of listening as an obedient act of confession according to the Gospel of Matthew and that of listening to and interpreting the oral performance of Paul’s letter to the Romans. Intraoperative Nerve Monitoring in Thyroid Operations

Injury to the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) is a rare but dreaded complication of thyroid surgery. Intraoperative nerve monitoring (IONM) is a technology intended to assist surgeons in identifying the RLN and confirming its function. This chapter describes the technology and technique of IONM, with tips for utilization and interpretation of results. A review of the existing literature on the res

Autonomous Agents and the Concept of Concepts

An autonomous agent is a system capable of interacting with its environment via its own sensors and effectors in order to accomplish some task. Arguments against both purely reactive and purely deliberative agent architectures are presented in favor for hybrid approaches. A novel hybrid approach based on the concept of anticipatory s

Walking away from a low-carbon economy?

Using the latest available data, this brief article attempts to provide the first regional decomposition analysis of CO2 emissions from fuel combustion. Covering eight regions of the world, determinants are estimated in relative and absolute terms for the period 1971-2010. We take the 2010 global surge in CO2 emissions as an entry point for the analysis. Overall, results show that most regions hav

Reaction mechanism of metalloenzymes studied by theoretical methods

Metalloenzymes are proteins that contain one or more metal ions bound to protein. They constitute about one-third of all enzymes known so far and they often perform hard chemical reactions involving small substrates, like H2 and N2. In our research, we focus on those metal ions that are located in the active sites and perform redox reactions, i.e. involving electron transfer. Why enzymes? As we kMetalloenzymes catalyse a wide variety of reactions in nature. In the thesis, I have studied the reaction mechanism of three metalloenzymes, viz. [NiFe] hydrogenase (H2ase), dimethyl sulfoxide reductase (DMSOR) and formate dehydrogenase (FDH), by theoretical methods, namely quantum mechanics (QM), combined quantum mechanical and molecular mechanics (QM/MM), as well as QM/MM thermodynamic cycle per

Aberrant nigral diffusion in Parkinson's disease : A longitudinal diffusion tensor imaging study

BACKGROUND: Measuring microstructure alterations with diffusion tensor imaging in PD is potentially a valuable tool to use as a biomarker for early diagnosis and to track disease progression. Previous studies have reported a specific decrease of nigral fractional anisotropy in PD. However, to date the effect of disease progression on nigral or striatal diffusion indices has not been fully explored

Liposuction and Controlled Compression Therapy in the Treatment of Arm Lymphedema following Breast Cancer

Detta inträffLiposuction and controlled compression therapy in the treatment of arm lymphedema following breast cancer About one-third of all women treated for breast cancer develop arm lymphedema. The cancer itself is a worry, but the swollen and heavy arm is an additional handicap for the patients, both physical and psychosocial. Previous surgical and conservative treatments have not always given satisfacto

JNK1 controls dendritic field size in L2/3 and L5 of the motor cortex, constrains soma size, and influences fine motor coordination.

Genetic anomalies on the JNK pathway confer susceptibility to autism spectrum disorders, schizophrenia, and intellectual disability. The mechanism whereby a gain or loss of function in JNK signaling predisposes to these prevalent dendrite disorders, with associated motor dysfunction, remains unclear. Here we find that JNK1 regulates the dendritic field of L2/3 and L5 pyramidal neurons of the mouse

PVC flooring at home and development of asthma among young children in Sweden, a 10-year follow-up

The incidence of asthma and allergy has increased throughout the developed world over the past decades. During the same period of time, the use of industrial chemicals such as phthalates, commonly used as plasticizers in polyvinylchloride (PVC) flooring material, has increased. The aim of this study was to investigate whether PVC flooring in the home of children in the age of 1-5years is associate

Thyroid hormones and breast cancer-prospective studies on incidence, mortality and prognostic factors

Det finns också belägg för att sköThyroid hormones and breast cancer-prospective studies on incidence, mortality and prognostic factors The aim of this thesis was to investigate in a prospective design, thyroid hormones in relation to breast cancer risk, mortality and prognostic factors. The association between total triiodothyronine (T3) levels and breast cancer risk was studied in 2185 women with146 incident breast cancer case
