The radial transport, or drift, of dust has taken a critical role in giant planet formation theory. However, it has been challenging to identify dust drift pileups in the hard-to-observe inner disk. We find that the IM Lup disk shows evidence that it has been shaped by an episode of dust drift. Using radiative transfer and dust dynamical modeling we study the radial and vertical dust distribution.

For two-component composites, we address the inverse problem of estimating the structural parameters and decrease measurement errors in bulk property measurements. A measurement of the effective permittivity at one frequency gives microstructural information about the composite that is used in cross-property bounds to estimate the effective permittivity at other frequencies. We use this informatio

In this article, I explore interpretations and depictions of the Hebrew Bible in Swedish daily press between 1987 and 2017. As a point of departure, I examine three debates concerning three different aspects of the Hebrew Bible (in the debates understood as the “Old Testament”): its depictions of women, God, and homosexuality. The analysis shows that the Hebrew Bible tends to be portrayed as a pro

Genom ett diskursivt institutionellt perspektiv betonar avhandlingen den dynaThis dissertation examines the (re)emergence of civil defence in Europe in the aftermath of Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014. More specifically, it investigates the existing conceptions of civil defence and how these are shaped in a multi-level institutional context, focusing on the interplay between national, regional, and international levels. Through the lens of discursive institutionalism

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the ‘normality’ of our everyday lives, but it did so in the wake of a series of crises within the capitalist system, which worsened the conditions for a liveable world for many while benefitting only a few. In response to these crises, the contributions in this issue highlight the diverse ways activists continue to organise in the midst of social, political, and eco

A migratory divide is a narrow region in which two populations showing different migratory directions meet and presumably also mate and hybridize. Banding of willow warblers, Phylloscopus trochilus, in Europe has demonstrated a migratory divide latitudinally across central Scandinavia. In autumn, southern birds migrate southwest to tropical West Africa, whereas northern birds migrate southeast to

The results of an initial study of enzymatic catalysis in metastable supersaturated solutions of carbohydrates are presented. It has been shown that such solutions, formed in the presence of small amounts of water and alcohol as plasticizers, are sufficiently stable under ambient conditions to enable enzymatic transformations of substrates. A partial phase diagram for a system consisting of glucos

Background: Respiratory symptoms are common in the general adult population. Increased burden of respiratory symptoms may increase the risk of mortality. We assessed the association between respiratory symptom clusters and mortality. Methods: Participants were derived from two population-based Swedish adult cohorts (N = 63,060). Cluster analysis was performed with Locality Sensitive Hashing (LSH)-

Esophageal lesions are common findings in disorders of the digestive tract in patients living with HIV, the most typical symptoms being odynophagia and/or dysphagia. This article provides a narrative review of the spectrum of esophagitis in patients living with HIV, focusing on fungal, viral, bacterial and non-infectious etiologies, as well as co-infections with viral hepatitis viruses. The articl

BACKGROUND: It is unclear how diabetes and metformin use is associated with survival of esophageal cancer.METHODS: This population-based cohort study included new cases of esophageal cancer reported in Sweden from 2006 to 2018 with follow-up through 2019. Diabetes status and metformin use were analyzed in relation to all-cause and disease-specific mortality using multivariable Cox regression. The

Purpose: Exercise-induced hypohydration exacerbates biomarkers of renal injury, but studies isolating the effects of hypohydration without exercise have produced mixed findings. This study investigated the effects of 24-h severe fluid restriction on biomarkers of renal injury and glucose tolerance. Methods: Fifteen males (age: 27 ± 5 y; BMI: 24.1 ± 3.8 kg/m2) completed two randomised trials, invol

The EU’s recent regulatory approach in the digital sphere promises to introduce greater consideration for fundamental rights. However, this does not apply to all fundamental rights and their holders equally. With particular focus on the freedom to conduct a business, this article will be exploring the restrictions imposed on certain undertakings—so-called gatekeepers—operating in the Digital Singl

Birds regularly moult their feathers when they are worn from use such as mechanical wear damage due to UV exposure or accidents. Moulting generates temporary, generally symmetric, wing gaps, which can reduce flight performance by altering aerodynamic forces, lift and drag. Birds can compensate for some of these effects through mass loss, enlarged flight muscles, and adaptive wing morphing. To circ

The Swedish Research Council is a Swedish government agency and one of the major research financiers in Sweden. As such, its operations are governed by legislation and governmental instructions and policies, which prohibit discrimination and include equal treatment. Consequently, the Swedish Research Council has for a large number of years been working actively against gender bias in their reviews

Method: Thirty-two PD patients with sleep disturbances (Clinical Global Impression-Severity (CGI-S) ≥ 3) were included in this observational study. Before start of treatment and during stable dose with rotigotine patients were assessed with Parkinson’s disease sleep scale 2 (PDSS-2), Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Parkinson’s disease quality of life questionnaire (PDQ-8), European Quality of life

Background & aims: Colorectal cancer (CRC), particularly rectal cancer, often requires neoadjuvant radiotherapy (RT) as part of its treatment plan. Although effective, RT can cause significant gastrointestinal side effects. Because the onset of RT-induced tissue injury can be anticipated, there is an opportunity to apply preventive measures before the damage occurs. This study aimed to assess

We summarize the theory and implementation of an open source solver for rotationally symmetric scatterers. The purpose of the code is to compute reference solutions for electrically large radome problems. The rotational symmetry decouples the azimuthal modes, enabling the three-dimensional problem to be broken down into a sequence of decoupled two-dimensional problems which require much less memor
